Questions and Answers
I had a career in finance for quite some time. Why did I decide to finally leave it to start a career in tailor-made clothing?
Since I was a little girl, I have always wanted to be in the field of couture. As a child, I did not play with dolls. I used to create collections out of the scraps of fabrics and organise fashion shows. As a teenager and a young adult, I started to make my own clothing, first from existing patterns, and then by designing it myself. But I grew up in an environment where I had to get a higher education, and more specifically to follow scientific studies. I cannot say that I was discouraged from doing what I wanted to do, it was unthinkable!
It took me years to understand that I could make my dream come true.
Who am I targeting with my designs ?
I asked myself this very same question for quite some time. When I created my company, I wanted to sew and create clothes for all women. Financially speaking, it was illusory. My experience in the field of finance did not protect me from this illusion! 2 or 3 years ago, I finally realized that I could create an economically-viable path for myself by joining all the aspects of my life: studies, professional experience and dreams. From that moment, I knew who my clients would be: executive women and aspiring executive women, whatever the domain: private companies, civil servants....
Why am I different from just another stylist/designer ?
As I previously said, my life is my best asset. I am addressing clients who have very specific needs. They are in a very codified environment where no mistake is forgiven and where, unfortunately, they are judged based on what they are wearing. I know this kind of environment. I followed the same path. I speak the same language. I know about the codes they have to respect. I can therefore give them the most appropriate answer to their needs. Even better, I can allow them, through tailor-made clothing, to express their personalities, their femininity and make their dreams come true. I created a special environment just for them, where, for a while, they can forget about their daily life.
Retrospectively speaking, do I think I made the right choice ?
I certainly made the right choice, definitely! My company was created in 2004. It was very hard and at times still is. But I do not regret my choice, not even for a minute. I love what I do. I do not know if this is an added value for my clients but I know they are aware that my work is my passion. I remember one of my clients saying when I was working on the design of one of her suits: “I know I made the right choice, your eyes are shining”. This is a fact, I feel as happy to create clothes as my clients are to wear them.
